UBC Master of Educational Technology

Introduction to Research

A core course that trained me to ground instructional and UX design decisions in evidence-based research. Key takeaways and applications:

  • Explored qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods paradigms to select appropriate research approaches for learning challenges
  • Analyzed educational datasets to identify teaching strategies that improve learner performance across diverse contexts
  • Built rigorous research synthesis workflows using citation management tools to organize, evaluate, and apply peer-reviewed literature
  • Shifted from intuition-driven to research-informed design: I now routinely integrate literature reviews, learner data analysis, and evidence-based frameworks into my projects

This course reshaped how I approach educational design. Research is no longer a separate phase; it’s the foundation of every user-centered solution I create.
